Our Schloss Krumbach International School students explore a museum gallery surrounded by Egyptian coffins and painted walls.

From the History Classroom to Ancient Egypt and Greece

One of our early school-year traditions at Schloss Krumbach International School is a visit to Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum with our History teacher.

This year’s excursion introduced students to the museum’s collections of Ancient Egyptian and Greek artefacts, connecting their classroom studies with objects that have survived for thousands of years.

The Egyptian collection offers an opportunity to examine the beliefs, artistic conventions and daily lives of one of the ancient world’s most influential civilisations. The Greek collections allow students to encounter the art, mythology and material culture of another civilisation whose influence remains visible throughout European history.

Studying history involves learning to work with evidence. Artefacts can reveal information about how people lived, what they valued and how they understood their world. Seeing these objects in person helps students appreciate the material evidence on which historical knowledge is built.

At SKIS,  is taught as a distinct academic subject, complemented by Art History, Literature and other humanities. Visits to Vienna’s museums allow students to connect these disciplines while developing their knowledge of the civilisations they study.

For our students, the Kunsthistorisches Museum is becoming a familiar place to return to as their historical knowledge develops.
