Europe as a Classroom
From mysterious Egyptian pyramids and proud-standing Athenian Parthenon to art-filled Vatican premises and breathtaking capitals of Milano, our students have explored the world in their pursuit of knowledge, within the framework of our exciting study trips.
Curriculum-Embedded Selection
At Schloss Krumbach, we strive to take the most out of the cultural heritage we are surrounded with, and proudly show students to the great museums we have in Vienna. Study trips are thoughtfully integrated into our curriculum to reinforce classroom learning through real-world experiences. Each trip is carefully chosen to align with specific subjects, providing students with an opportunity to have a hands-on insight into what they covered in the classroom.

Our Trip Geography Map
Staff Supervision
To ensure a safe, engaging experience, all trips are supervised by trained staff. Teachers accompany students throughout, guiding discussions and insights that bring new dimensions to the trip.
Cost Structure
Shorter, day-only trips are included in tuition, while extended trips require additional fees. This transparent cost structure allows families to plan for the unique educational benefits of each trip type.

Linguistic Development
Literature vs. Language Study
Our curriculum distinguishes between literature and language studies, emphasizing both the expressive and analytical dimensions of language learning.
Bilingualism Plus Mother Tongue Support
Alongside bilingual German and English instruction, we support the development of each student’s mother tongue. This fosters multilingualism, which is increasingly valued in today’s globalized world.
Additional Language Options
We encourage students to broaden their linguistic abilities by offering additional language studies, promoting a strong foundation for further linguistic pursuits.
Practical Interaction Opportunities
Students practice their language skills through varied experiences, such as conferences, school open days, reading classical literature, and participating in musicals, making language learning a natural part of their interactions.
Arts & Drawing
At Schloss Krumbach, we take nurturing the artistic talents of our school community very seriously, and seek to provide all the students – no matter if they have prior experience or not – with tools and knowledge to express themselves in drawing.
An All-School Artistic Exploration
All students participate in visual arts, cultivating creativity and an appreciation for art’s role in culture and history. We host regular visual arts workshops on campus, engaging all the student body in the task of creative self-expression.
Visual Arts vs. History of Art
Art is a way of knowing the world, through the lenses of individual emotion, talent, and senses. Practicing art is an important part of individual growth and development, especially at a young age – this is how our students foster and externalize their creative potential and artistic techniques.
Yet, practicing art without having any knowledge of it is like going for a walk when it is pitch dark outside. It is an experience but a purposeless and directionless one at that. This is why our artistic education first exposes students to the historical and visual framework of different techniques and art forms at a cultural context of a museum and only then asks them to replicate what they have learnt on their own.
We offer a balanced program where students learn both practical drawing skills and the historical context of visual arts, reinforced through frequent visits to museums and galleries.
Museum and Gallery Visits
Regular visits to museums and galleries provide firsthand encounters with masterpieces, enriching students’ exposure to the arts.
Opera and Theater Appreciation
Students attend operas and theater performances, enhancing their awareness of classical art forms and their relevance.
Dance
Do you want to become a part of Austria’s dazzling balldance culture, feeling familiar in a crowd of elegant ladies and gentlemen whirling across the rooms of the Hofburg Imperial Palace with grace and ease, as if dancing in pairs is as essential as breathing? Then join Schloss Krumbach International School!
Culture of Viennese Balls
Dance is a vital part of school culture, reflecting the Austrian tradition of formal balls. Students engage with the etiquette and social aspects of ballroom dancing. Recently our students attended the 124th opening of the legendary Zukcerbäckerball. Generally, the tradition of balls is an integral part of Austrian culture, dating back to the 18th century.
Ball Dancing Classes
Ballroom dancing is part of the curriculum, with students participating in weekly classes to master the fundamentals of formal dance.
Professional Workshops and Musical Practice
In addition to classes, we host professional workshops, and students practice their dance skills during rehearsals for the school musical, building confidence and poise.

Theater & Drama
Musical theater is a style of performance that combines singing, dance and drama. At SKIS, it is also a medium of after-school activity which generates far-reaching benefits for students’ confidence, problem solving skills, and creative abilities. Many of our students have discovered a hidden talent for dance, drama or acting they never knew they had.
Moreover, as we organize large-scale performances twice a year (to which we also invite the parents), students get to participate in all aspects of organization of the upcoming events – from creative interpretation of the storyline, division of roles, and directing work to creation of decoration, costumes and guest management.
Such multi-sided experience fosters their problem solving skills and encourages innovative out-of-box thinking, the skills that lead to greater adaptability later on in life.
Mandatory Participation
Drama is a core part of our arts program, and every student takes part, cultivating their performance and public-speaking skills.
Ball Dancing Classes
Each year, students collaborate on a multilingual Christmas play, working together across roles to produce a memorable performance.
Student Leadership’s Role
Student leaders help coordinate theater events, allowing them to take ownership of productions, decorations, rehearsals, and foster teamwork and leadership skills.

Athletics
Athletics at Schloss Krumbach are more than just physical exercise—they are an essential part of the school’s philosophy, emphasizing wellness, skill development, and lifelong healthy habits.
Culture of Physical Education
At SKIS, we strive to create a balance between intellectual activity and physical development, providing a range of sports clubs, outdoor venues and extracurricular athletic activities. In general, there is at least one hour of Physical Education every day, various athletic sections, a pre-breakfast stretching routine as well as seasonal skiing trips to the nearby slope.
From October 2021 on, SKIS is an acting member of the Duke of Edinburgh framework, a UK-designed comprehensive system of extracurricular activities and sports, aimed at increasing students’ confidence, resilience, and team working skills.
Through a DofE programme young people have fun, make friends, build confidence, and adopt an ethical attitude to nature and environment around them. Having a DofE award on their resume also provides students with an additional competitive advantage when applying to college.
Team Sports
Team sports foster cooperation, leadership, and a strong sense of community at Schloss Krumbach. Through regular practices and competitive games, students in soccer, volleyball, and basketball develop trust, communication skills, and mutual respect as they work together toward common goals.
By playing on teams with peers from diverse backgrounds, students cultivate cultural understanding and forge lasting friendships. Coaches emphasize sportsmanship and teamwork, encouraging students to support one another both on and off the field.
These experiences not only enhance physical fitness but also prepare students for future challenges by instilling perseverance, strategic thinking, and resilience—qualities that benefit them in all areas of life.
Skiing
Indeed, few things are more traditional to an Austrian winter than a good satisfying ski ride down the sparkling snowy hill. Our school is no exception, and our students are confident in the use of their skiing and snowboarding skills.
How do we organize the skiing trips, in addition rather than at the expense of the study time?
First, we change the schedule to ensure that students manage to combine sports with studying, and that they go skiing at the most optimal and effective time. SKIS is all about the student-tailored approach, indeed. We also make sure to collect parents’ consent to skiing in advance as well as the information on students’ equipment and skills. Then we pack our equipment and drive to the closest slope to have our share of mountain sun, fresh air, and breathtaking Alpine views.
Of course we have our nutritional mid-ski snacks prepared to fuel students’ energy, and our skiing instructors support the beginners and guide the advanced skiers. Aften skiing, we then usually have some hot chocolate and take many – maybe way too many – fun pictures. And get wide smiles, rosy cheeks, and a little bit of sunburn on our faces. It is really worth it though.
Duke of Edinburgh
At our international boarding school, the Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programme offers students a unique and enriching opportunity to develop vital life skills and engage with a global community. Living and learning alongside peers from diverse cultural backgrounds, students participating in DofE cultivate resilience, independence, and leadership skills through the programme’s four sections—Volunteering, Physical, Skills, and Expedition.
The programme encourages students to embrace challenges beyond the academic setting, whether by contributing to local community initiatives, learning new skills, or embarking on outdoor adventures.
These experiences are especially beneficial in a boarding school environment, where students grow in responsibility and adapt to living away from home. Completion of the DofE award is highly regarded by universities and employers worldwide, as it reflects dedication, adaptability, and a well-rounded character, all valuable traits for thriving in an interconnected world.

SKIS Christmas Play
Every year Schloss Krumbach International School organizes a spectacular flamboyant Christmas play – a multilingual school musical, with singing, dancing and acting, where every student takes part.
Decorations and Stage Design
The sound of paintbrushes, laughter, and music fills the Grand Hall of Schloss Krumbach International School every year, as our students gathered together to create the stage for the annual Christmas play.
In addition to being a lovely annual tradition, collective creation of the stage is also a learning ground, subtly teaching the students about perspective drawing, an integral component of art and an insight into the spatial relationships, size comparisons, and alignments.
This hands-on preparation for the annual Christmas play is one of the most beloved elements of the festive season at Schloss Krumbach International School, bringing together students, teachers, and parents. It evokes a sense of unity and collective ownership, which is vital to strengthening community bonds.
Student-led Broadway
The Christmas Play tradition brings a festive and reflective spirit to Schloss Krumbach each December, uniting the school community in a warm, holiday celebration. Students prepare for months, contributing to every aspect of the production—from acting to set design to costume-making—under the guidance of teachers and staff. T
The play is often an adaptation of a classic holiday story, offering an opportunity for students to explore themes of compassion, generosity, and togetherness. This cherished event creates a sense of belonging and holiday joy, as students work closely to deliver a heartfelt performance for their peers, families, and community members.
The Christmas Play tradition is more than a performance; it is a celebration of the festive season and the close-knit school community that makes Schloss Krumbach feel like home.

SKIS Historical Game
Nobody does Historical Games like Schloss Krumbach!
The Historical Game tradition at Schloss Krumbach International School is a beloved annual event that immerses students in an imaginative, hands-on experience of history.
Held within the atmospheric castle grounds, specifically created decorations and amazing costumes, the game invites students to step back in time, embracing roles from various historical eras. An intricate set-up with plot twists worth Hollywood movies is developed by our History teacher. All the students have their thought-through characters, with features and missions, and are not aware of the other storylines. The Historical Game puts to test students” knowledge of the historical context and encourages them to apply these knowledge ina dynamic and vibrant setting of interaction and play.
Through teamwork, strategy, competition, students bring history to life, gaining insight into the challenges, triumphs, and daily life of different historical periods. This event is designed to foster curiosity, deepen historical understanding, and develop teamwork. By connecting students to history in such a dynamic way, the Historical Game tradition becomes a highlight of the year, blending learning and play in a way that’s memorable and meaningful.
