The Great Budapest Trip (March 3rd – March 4th)

This weekend we have officially opened our 2023 SKIS travelling season, and such a grand opening it was!

Grades 8,10, and 11 went on a roadtrip to Budapest, which has come in handy with a variety of exciting activities ranging from trying local cuisine and sightseeing around the city with a university professor as a guide to a quest for traditional chimney cakes and photoshooting adventures.

We had such a blast and also very much enjoyed the beautiful and historical sights of the city. As we learned, the origins of Budapest can be traced to Celts who occupied the plains of Hungary in the 4th century BC. The area was later conquered by the Roman Empire, which established the fortress and town of Aquincum on the site of today’s Budapest around AD 100. Budapest also became the co-capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, a great power that dissolved in 1918, following World War I. The city was the focal point of the Hungarian Revolution of 1848, the Battle of Budapest in 1945, as well as the Hungarian Revolution of 1956.

We consider our debut trip of 2023 to be a roaring success, and look forward to visiting Budapest again next year.
