An Evening of Classical Music at the Wiener Konzerthaus

Students from Schloss Krumbach International School recently spent an evening at the Wiener Konzerthaus, attending a performance by the Wiener Symphoniker with violinist Gidon Kremer and conductor Elim Chan.

The programme featured works by Sofia Gubaidulina, Alfred Schnittke and Sergei Prokofiev, introducing students to different musical voices of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.

At SKIS,  is part of the curriculum, and regular concert visits allow students to encounter the music they study in a live setting. Classroom lessons help establish a foundation of musical knowledge, from historical periods and composers to instruments, musical forms and listening skills.

Live performances add another dimension to that education. Students can observe the relationship between conductor and orchestra, experience the sound of different instruments and discover how a musical composition develops over the course of a performance.

We believe that an appreciation of classical music develops through knowledge and repeated exposure. Not every student will immediately understand or enjoy every composition, particularly when encountering unfamiliar contemporary works. Learning to listen attentively, recognise musical ideas and form independent judgements is part of the process.

Concerts, theatre performances and museum visits are regular features of school life at Schloss Krumbach. Our aim is for students to become familiar with these institutions and gradually develop the confidence and cultural knowledge to enjoy them independently throughout their lives.
