Recently Schloss Krumbach’ merry crew of international learners – both teachers and students – visited a Christmas market in front of the Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna. One can hardly imagine a December in Austria without visiting a vibrant Christkindlmarkt! We enjoyed this trip very much and highly recommend it as an opportunity for an in-depth cultural insight into Austria’s Christmas traditions but also as a window into the royal history. Here is why:
– Schönbrunn Palace, which means “beautiful spring”, has served as a royal residence for Habsburg rulers for more than 300 years. It consists of a palace complex featuring many state-of-art apartments of Habsburg heritage, and is a great place to learn more about the Austrian monarchy, which was exactly what our students did on a guided tour.
– The Christmas market in front of the palace is one of the biggest and most picturesque ones in Vienna. Baked delicacies, artisan stores, and of course a wholesome Christmas spirit with a sprinkle of magic that can only be felt at the heart of Vienna render this place a choice number one.
– For students, it is a unique chance to immerse oneself in Austrian culture, practice German skills, and put history knowledge to test on a guided tour.
We cherish every opportunity to exposeour students to the historical riches and cultural heritage of Austria, our wonderful hosting country. We thank the Schönbrunn Palace for a great educational experience that our students had.
